Spiderman's back, gettin' good air too, not bad for a guy with an injured shoulder. A little over a week before Saturday's SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway, Helio Castroneves crashed hard in a test at the track he just won at. Jack Marahrens was going to cover the race for us, but he had a chance to attend the race with his father, who can blame him for doing that? Jack's race recap can be found here...
(The O/IRR Recap) Helio Castroneves got to scale another fence after winning, and Roger Yasukawa managed to single handedly alleviate any traffic congestion at RIR last night, here is an excerpt from my race ending summation,

"The race would be restarted with two laps remaining, but there was no change in the finishing order, Helio would get to climb the fence, Dario Franchitti would again be denied a RIR victory, and Patrick Carpentier, in finishing 3rd, got his best IndyCar finish ever, showing that if given a good car, he could be a series winner. Should Carpentier manage a win, he could do for IndyCar in Canada something similar to what Danica has done here.. Read the full race recap and view more Jim Wilke photo's here...

(6-25-05) I was at the 2004 SunTrust Indy Challenge, and while Helio Castroneves won the pole position (find 2004 "Q" results here), Dario Franchitti, who started 12th, was the driver that was on the way to dominating the race when he made contact with the lapped car of Mark Taylor. The detailed "last lap" report of the race tells most of the tale, and can be found here,  (check the boxes at the bottom of the page). In addition, my O/IRR race recap is posted here as well. Dario was furious at Taylor, the recap is worth a read.

Read the rest of my very brief SunTrust preview here... It is a work in progress, as I am awaiting further news and pictures, I'll try to get them posted before race time.

The Panther Racing engineers have been busy working on aero enhancements, and spending time in the wind tunnel as well. It appears to have paid dividends, Tomas Enge has been fast all day Friday at RIR, and I suspect Tomas Scheckter worked on race setups all day. Jim Wilke is at RIR, and he sent us a batch of front wing pictures that can been seen here... The Friday recap can be seen here...

(6-24-05) There is almost no chance for rain in the next two days at RIR, but the temperatures will be in the 90's, here is the weekend outlook.

Because of work issues, I will be unable to attend this years SunTrust Indy Challenge, but Jack Marahrens and Jim Wilke will be at RIR and sending back news and pictures. I'll use whatever information I can get from the internet to cover the race from home. Here are two links to my RIR reports...                      The O/IRR coverage on the 2004 SunTrust Indy Challenge.

RIR, too small for IndyCars, and too fast, a preview...
