During the past two
summers we have had college student visitors from Poland, Romania
and Slovakia here in Wendover, NV working at our casino, The
Wendover Nugget. In spite of a huge age difference, some have
become close personal friends and I have taken several road trips
to show them the best of the attractions in the area. Recently we
visited a mountaintop lake here in Nevada on our way to Twin
Falls, ID, the Snake River Canyon and Shoshone Falls. The
following week we went to Yellowstone National Park, and it
appears the timing was perfect, for this week it appears that the
snows of the season are falling in the park. Here are many of the
hundreds of pictures we took in the last two weeks. As time
permits in the future, I'll show some taken last year in Las
Vegas/Hoover Dam/Lake Meade and the Grand Canyon.

Rather then make
this page yards long, pictures from Yellowstone can be found here...
It too is a work in progress for now.

Our first trip this
year started here at Angel Lake, a high mountain lake outside
Wells, NV that is spring fed but also filled by snow melt as well.
High on the mountain you can see the last remnants of last
winter's snow, by today there should be fresh new snow up there.

Same lake, great
company.

The bridge over the
Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls, ID. In the upper right corner
middle picture and atop the bridge, base jumpers are setting up to
parachute into the canyon, that is a recovery boat shown below.
The target landing area is shown in the lower picture. There were
three jumpers, two made it to land on the near shore, one went
into the river. The Twin Falls elevation is 3,700 feet and the
canyon of the Snake River there is 1,800 feet deep. There are two
golf courses in the canyon west of the bridge, shown in the below
picture that afford year-round golf, sheltered from the winter
winds by the steep canyon walls.

This is a canyon
view looking east, just to the left on Anna's pretty face, and
atop the south rim is the ramp used for the failed Evil Knivel
Snake River Canyon jump, that ramp is on private property and is inaccessible
to the public.

These are pictures
of the Shoshone Falls area, the top two were as we saw them then
after the water is diverted for irrigation at this time of the
year, the lower picture shows the falls at full water flow.

Also in the Shoshone
Falls Park area is beautiful but cold Dierkes Lake Park. Too cold
to swim in for us, but we did take our shoes off and soak tired
feet. In the picture below that, on the mesa above and to the left
of the other Anna, is the beautiful home shown in the bottom
picture, I'm sure that the view of the Snake River and canyon from
the other side of the house is equally as spectacular.

Returning to the west side of the
bridge, the girls wanted to walk alongside the Snake River in an
area where the water would be above their heads in the
springtime. From there we headed back to the top of the canyon,
but not before we stopped at this the waterfall shown below,
less than a mile from Twin Falls busiest intersections.
