Ryan Briscoe can be seen still inside the cocoon of protection afforded him by the tub of his Panoz chassis, all that is left intact after a horrendous crash at Chicagoland Speedway Sunday. Briscoe suffered a concussion, a bruised lung and two broken collarbones, but is on the mend after being transported to an Indianapolis hospital. Note that after crashing at well over 200 mph, thanks to the tether system the front and rear (shown below) wheels and tires remain attached to the tub.  The remaining fire is probably oil  residue from the detached engine. IndyCars are fueled by a methanol/ethanol combination that produce a fire that can't be seen.

(9-14-05) A complete and detailed wrap-up of Sunday's race is finished, including commentary on ill-timed restarts, drivers who can dish out the hard knocks and don't like to be on the receiving end and "points" racing. The recap can be found here...

While I have heard many rumors as to what happened yesterday afternoon in tech inspection, I have no accurate information that I can feel comfortable enough with to quote. IndyCar does not release information of this nature, so I am trying to check a couple of sources and will have a follow up on the story later.

I have posted a revised starting lineup, the final practice speed chart and additional commentary here...

There will be no running race recap today, this is one of the best events on the schedule, I'll just sit back to watch and enjoy it.

There will be darn few surprises to expect as the IndyCars take to the track this morning at Chicagoland Speedway. There will be 23 entries again with the return of Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing and driver Jimmy Kite, who missed the road course event at Infineon Raceway. In addition Jaques Lazier returns to the TCGR #10 and his brother Buddy will run the #95 Dallara Chevy with a Hurricane Katrina relief paint scheme. AJ Foyt will also return to the #14 car, here in the entry list link...

Look for more on the Peak Antifreeze Indy 300 here...

I will also be doing a running recap of Saturdays P&Q sessions here...
