The 2nd
and final Friday practice session has ended, Castroneves tops
both sessions.

Helio Castroneves "won"
both Friday sessions, but we've seen that act before. This time
it was Franchitti in a final lap flyer that edged AGR teammate
Tony Kanaan for 2nd on the chart. Kanaan must have been on a
flyer of his own, and got into trouble and spun into the dirt,
perhaps trying for fast time of the day. I could work out a
combined chart or wait until T&S does it and link it, I
think for today at least I'll wait. Here's the T&S look.

The 1st
practice session is over...

The first practice session ended with
Helio Castroneves, always fast and a contender on roads and streets edging
making a final lap flyer to edge out Franchitti for top speed of the
session, turning a final practice lap of 108.193-mph, a speed that is a
half-mph faster than the Friday speed of last year. With today's
all-important 2nd practice session speeds combined with the 1st session
results to determine the qualifying order Saturday, I expect faster speeds
in the next session. During the break the teams will make gearbox ratio
changes and chassis adjustments that should result in a faster session
later in the day. With the exception of Danica Patrick posting 12th
fastest speed, the T&S chart is about what I would have expected,
including Darren Manning's result, but to be fair, this team always starts
with a safe but slow setup and builds speeds as they go.
