Miles has left us now...

Micheal Nelson came by the forum this evening with some very sad news.

"Hi Everyone, I am Michael, Miles's oldest son. It is my sad duty to inform all his great friends that Miles passed away. I don't have any details yet as to what happened. This sad news is a shock to all of us and he will be missed by many. He told me a while ago, when one of his friends passed "I've lived a great life, don't feel sorry for me when it is my time." I'm glad the Lord let him see one more Indy 500 and witness the promising future of his beloved sport.

I will post more information when I find out, Please let others know.
Thanks everyone for your friendship with my Dad. Michael."

Words can't express the sadness I feel right now.  My thoughts are with his family members, and with his friends and acquaintances that this wonderful man has left behind.

To Miles

It was only a few months ago when I received a message from “Mack Too” at Track Forum. He liked my posts there (well, perhaps MOST of them) and invited me to join his “inner sanctum” at indyracereports.com, which I gladly accepted. I had been, at the time, been doing some writing for another website which heavily supported Champ Car. When “the mergification” went down in late February, that website decided not to cover the new, unified league....which, of course, is its prerogative. However, I still wished to follow and, perhaps cover, the Indy Car Series and when I told Miles this, he offered me a job with indyracereports.com. We enjoyed a brief partnership which also evolved into a friendly correspondence, via email. Sadly, brief it was.

I didn't know Miles for as long as many other race aficionados nor did I know him for as long as I would have wished. But, I am glad I did. And I am so very grateful for the opportunity to continue writing about the sport I love. It is time to grieve. It is time to feel shocked over his sudden passing. It is time to feel the loss of a friend. But it is also time to remember, to celebrate our friendships, and to keep on living.

We don't know how long Miles' vision for this website will continue but his passion and devotion for racing lives on. We can only try to carry those on into the future. RIP, our friend. Now, drop the flag and let's go racing!
